What You’ll Receive in Your Hog Share

Our Mangalitsa hog share is professionally cut and packaged into the same retail-ready cuts we sell individually, based on your selected share size and cut sheet preferences.

You'll receive a balanced mix of:

  • Chops and steaks — porterhouse, rib chop, tomahawk
  • Roasts — Boston butt, picnic shoulder, fresh ham
  • Bacon, belly, and spare ribs
  • Fresh or smoked sausage
  • Ground pork
  • Back fat and trim for lard

All cuts are vacuum-sealed, labeled, and freezer-ready.
Exact quantities vary by animal and cut sheet.

The Honey Pot Farmstead Share Process

The Honey Pot Farmstead Share Process

This one needs the most work — it's where the "upcoming harvest" and "monthly harvest" language lives.

  1. Choose your share — Select a whole, half, or quarter hog.
  2. Build your cut sheet — We'll send you a cut sheet before processing. Choose chop thickness, roasts, what gets ground, and what gets smoked.
  3. We handle the processor — Your hog is processed at a USDA-inspected facility under Honey Pot Farmstead at our bulk rate. Vacuum-sealed, labeled with your name, and frozen. You never deal with the processor.
  4. Delivery or pickup — We coordinate delivery or farm pickup based on your location.

Getting Your Share

Delivery & Pickup

Free delivery across Central Texas, DFW, Houston, Austin, and San Antonio.

Nationwide frozen shipping is available outside the delivery area (shipping costs apply). Farm pickup is available by appointment in Corsicana, Texas, once your share is processed and frozen.

Freezer Space Requirements

  • Whole Hog: ~5–6 cubic feet
  • Half Hog: ~3 cubic feet
  • Quarter Hog: ~1.5 cubic feet

A standard chest freezer holds a whole hog. A half fits most upright freezers, and a quarter fits in a typical refrigerator/freezer combo.

Your Pork Shouldn't Be White

Conventional pork is bred for leanness, resulting in pale meat lacking flavor and moisture. One look at our Mangalitsa pork tells a different story – the meat is richly red with beautiful marbling throughout. This isn't just a visual difference. The deep color indicates higher myoglobin content and intramuscular fat, translating directly to more flavor and moisture in every bite. When you cook our pork, you'll notice it stays juicy and tender, even if you accidentally overcook it a bit.

The Wagyu of Pork: A Rare Culinary Treasure

Known as "The Wagyu of Pork," Mangalitsa pigs were once served exclusively to Habsburg royalty. Today, this heritage breed remains prized by chefs and culinary enthusiasts worldwide for its extraordinary eating quality. What makes it so special? Like its beef counterpart, Mangalitsa pork features exceptional marbling – the fine threads of fat within the muscle that melt during cooking, basting the meat from within. This creates a texture and flavor experience that's simply unattainable with conventional pork.

At Honey Pot Farmstead, we enhance these natural qualities through our raising practices:

  • Extended Raising Period: We raise our pigs for 16+ months (versus 5-6 months for conventional pork), allowing full flavor development
  • Pasture Access: Our pigs roam freely, foraging naturally and developing proper muscle structure
  • Specialized Diet: Our signature millet and peanut finishing program (Non GMO, soy free) enhances the meat's distinctive qualities
  • Small-Batch Processing: We work with a small family processor who understands the special handling these animals deserve

The result is pork that doesn't just taste better – it's a completely different culinary experience.
